Frequently Asked Questions About Whole House Filters
That’s simple! Out of over 3,500 plumbing companies in the Cincinnati market, we are the only plumbing company that’s 100% water treatment. Water treatment is our only business. We install over 1,000 pieces of water treatment equipment every year. We sell it, we install it and we service it. Other plumbing companies sell & install water treatment products, but they don’t service them. We average at least 20 inquiries a day, from people who are looking for a company to service their water treatment equipment that another plumbing company installed but doesn’t have the experience to service it.

Whole-house filters can look similar on the outside, but they differ a lot in what they remove, how they work, how they’re built and where they’re built.
Whole-house water filters and whole-house water softeners are very different from each other, even though people often confuse them as the same. Water softeners require salt, electricity and a drain. Water softeners remove the water hardness minerals like calcium, magnesium, limestone & etc. Whole-house filters remove contaminants such as sediments, sand, rust, silt, lead, chlorine, chloramines, bad taste or odors. Some specialty filters can remove iron, sulfur and some heavy metals depending on the media. Whole-house filters do not require electricity or a drain.
Yes, most people own a whole-house filter with a water softener together. In fact, the combination is one of the most common residential setups, especially in areas with hard water and high chlorine levels. A typical setup looks like this: Main water line, then sediment filter, then carbon filter, then water softener. Together they give you the best working water throughout your house. The whole-house filter cleans the water and the water softener conditions the water. Together you get a complete whole-house treatment.
Whole-house water filters and reverse osmosis (RO) systems are very different in how they work, what they remove, and where they’re installed. Whole-house filters are installed at your main water line and filters every tap, showers, sinks, washing machine, dishwasher etc. Whole-house filters do not purify water like reverse osmosis. Whole-house filters do not remove, total dissolved solids (TDS), Fluoride, Arsenic, chromium, PFAS, pharmaceutical drugs, microplastics, bacteria, viruses and many other contaminants less than 1 micron in size.
Yes, having both a whole-house water filter and a reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water system is extremely common, and in many cases it’s actually the best setup. Whole-house filters give you the best working water. Water that you bathe, shower, clean clothes, clean the house etc. Reverse osmosis gives you the best water for drinking & cooking. Reverse osmosis systems last longer when the water is pre-treated.
Water pressure between 40psi & 75psi is important in your home because it ensures efficient water flow for daily tasked, protects your plumbing and appliances from damage, and prevents costly repairs and water waste. Water pressure over 80psi can cause serious damage. This can result in leaks, pipe bursts, and excessive wear on fixtures, as well as problems with water appliances. Most homes do have a water pressure regulator valve to regulate their incoming water pressure. Water pressure regulator valves typically last 10 to 20 years. If they are still currently working, they will never allow water pressure to go over 75psi.
- It must be sold & installed by a plumbing company with a licensed plumber. This ensures correct installation, which prevents potential damage, maintains warranty protection, and guarantees long term efficiency.
- Installed by an employee, not a subcontractor. With subcontractors you have less oversight over how they perform their work, which can lead to inconsistent quality and work that doesn’t meet high standards.
- 100% manufactured & assembled in the United States. American-made water treatment products are associated with higher quality and better, more reliable warranties, because of stricter regulations and quality control standards.
- Something not sold at a big box store like Home Depot, Lowes, Menards etc. Water treatment products sold at a big box stores are made cheaper through lower-grade materials, different products lines with cheaper components, and higher volume production to reduce costs.
Being in business since 1988 has allowed many customers to own both our whole-house filtration system and that of our competitors. According to our online reviews, customers who have owned both have said the quality is the same except our prices are around 50% less to purchase & service. Why? As a wholesale water treatment company, we do not have commissioned sales reps, commissioned installers, national advertising, large retail office space and expensive overhead. As a small family-owned home-based plumbing company we can offer more for less.
Like the whole-house filtration systems sold online these whole-house filtration systems compete for lowest price and are replaced 75% more often than a high-quality whole-house filtration system. Why? Most people buy them for their extremely low price not realizing:
- Majority of these replacement filters are made in China.
- Many of these filters don’t remove what they claim.
- Most people do not truly know how often to replace the filters. Our prices are already around 50% less than our local competitors’ comparing apples to apples because of our wholesale pricing. The reason we are Cincinnati’s highest rated water treatment company is because of our excellent service after the installation. That is something you will never get from an online purchase.

You could but we don’t recommend it, especially if you have a water softener that’s under warranty. Any self-maintenance can void your manufacturer warranty. If you want to do self-maintenance to save money, then we are the wrong company to begin with. That’s what Amazon & the big box stores are for. The reason we have the high rating we do is because we’re doing 100% of the maintenance. We invest numerous hours each year in continuous education in water treatment so that we can offer the best possible service.
Next to the water softener or at your main water shutoff area where the water enters your house. Most likely no other location can guarantee 100% filtered water throughout your home.
For several reasons. We are coming into your home with almost 40 years of experience and thousands of installations. If we see something wrong or not code, we don’t hide it from our customers. You do want an honest assessment, don’t you? Our competitors offer free estimates or free water testing because their sales reps are on commission only, which is usually around 25%. If they see something wrong, they won’t tell you because it might affect their sale. Free water testing is also a gimmick because what they are testing for is already public information in your local water quality report in print or online. We do apply a $69 credit to anything you purchase, if installed within 30 days of the site visit/ written estimate.

3 Things:
- Water Pressure – Maintaining water pressure around 60psi at all times
- Annual Maintenance – not neglecting annual maintenance and not attempting to do it yourself
- NOTE: Majority of leaks we go on are from customers doing their own service and not doing it correctly or neglecting service all together
- Water Alarms – Water alarms don’t prevent leaks but they prevent damage or minimize damage by immediately alerting you when there is a leak. It makes a loud chirping sound when water is detected. A must have for any home.
